About Mad River Tennis Club
The club, started in 1970, is located on land once owned by Roland Palmedo, one of the founders of Mad River Glen. Many of the long-time members grew up during the heyday of tennis popularity in the US before its decline during recent generations. We have some fine players, and it’s a fun, friendly scene in a great setting.
We’d like to reinvigorate and sustain the club by getting more young individuals and families involved.
Most of the activity is privately arranged along with a few popular weekly round robins. Some efforts are underway to revive a couple tournaments that in the past were held on Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends. Tennis instruction/coaching may be available as noted on the Seasonal page or by email to members.
Annual dues are very affordable. Guests must be accompanied by a member, and there is a per session guest fee of $15. There is no additional court-use fee.
Court availability is generally very good with few exceptions. Reservations are made on-line using Google calendar; walk-ons are typical (please record your visit on the sign-in sheet in the shed).
The courts are usually ready for play the first week in June through mid-October. The surface plays very well and the only drawback is that, being natural clay, it sometimes takes a while to dry following significant rainfall. (Please, if your footprint makes a depression, it is too wet to play.)
We have outside assistance opening and closing the club. Maintenance is performed by Board members and Club member volunteers.
Note: We do not publicize our website or our physical location so as not to generate any more than the traffic of our members and guests.
Please see the yearly “Season” page for more detail.
Please sweep courts all the way to the fences and brush all lines after play.
