2024 Activities
Each of the round robins seeks eight players and utilizes both courts if enough people sign up.
- Mens Round Robin, Tuesdays 4:00 – 6:00. Contact Geordie Hall for information and to be added to the Player Lineup reservation method.
- Ladies Round Robin, Wednesdays 9:30 – 11:30, relaxed, social play. Contact Karen Winchell for information and to be added to the weekly email sign-up list.
- Ladies Round Robin, Thursdays 4:00 – 6:00, fast-paced, athletic, competitive, intermediate/advanced. Contact Darlene McCormick for information and to be added to the weekly email sign-up list.
Triples will be held once per month on Fridays. Lee Delfausse organizes this; text her cell number noted on the Google calendar to participate. It is often followed by a potluck.
We anticipate putting on a Labor Day doubles tournament as we have for several years.
2024 Membership
Closed to New Members as of 6/3/24.
Please do not fill out a 2023 application. Please download and fill out this 2024 application and mail with a check to the address on the form. If you are wondering why we are not “electronic” yet, read here.
New members will be added to the Google calendar within a few days or week of being received. Some Google calendar instructions that may be helpful are here. Please review the tips and instructions to avoid making mistakes, including the inadvertent removal of someone else’s reservation. Past members should still be able to access the calendar.
Members who do not renew are left on distributions in the event you renew again in the future (and for our ease of management). Let us know if you prefer to be removed from our lists.
Members joining later in the season will be added to membership list as time allows. You are welcome to add your info to the hardcopy posted in the shed.
Membership is not prorated. We feel we offer exceptional value and even late joiners can get their money’s worth as we stay open well into the Fall.
Reservations and Recording Your Play
Please carefully read/re-read these guidelines for 2024. Each bullet is important, but please make careful note of those in bold including the cancellation reminder and on-site sign-in request that will help us evaluate usage.
- Use the Google calendar to make reservations.
- When you make a reservation, please make sure it shows on the tennis calendar in the event you also use Google calendar for other purposes. Please also make sure your personal appointments don’t get added to the tennis calendar. Review the live calendar when done (check your work).
- Please also make sure you don’t alter or delete someone else’s reservation. PLEASE read these Google calendar instructions and tips to avoid problems.
- The standard time block is set at 1.5 hours. Adjust if needed—longer for doubles and only in low usage periods—shorter if you need less time.
- If you are reserving between others, check the length of their reservations and make sure there is no overlap. Contact them to see if a shift can be made that will eliminate gaps.
- Please specify Court 1 or 2.
- Courts may be booked up to seven days in advance.
- Recurring reservations may NOT be booked by members and are reserved for club-wide activities.
- If you are planning a session that needs two courts, one member may book the first court up to seven days in advance and a second member may book the second court once a sixth player is confirmed. Please release the second court as soon as practical if it will not be utilized.
- If a member books time to receive coaching during which a basket of balls will be used, please clearly write the word LESSON in the title of your reservation so adjacent players will be informed.
- In addition to reserving on the Google calendar, walk-ons are allowed, but please yield if a person who has reserved arrives.
- Weekday evenings are the busiest use of court time; if you have the flexibility in your schedule, please leave those time slots for those who work weekdays.
- Remember to cancel if you can’t play due to a scheduling conflict or change of plans. If you want to be really helpful, leave the reservation and note if you weren’t able to play due to rain or courts too wet. This helps us evaluate actual usage.
- Please sign-in all players and guests on the sign-in sheets in the clubhouse in addition to having made your Google calendar reservation. (This helps us evaluate actual usage.)
- We don’t have a lot of formal rules and hope that if everyone is courteous with their reservations, minimizing gaps, etc., that we won’t have to establish rules.
- If you need flexibility on any of the above, please contact a Board member with details.
Guests
Guests may play WITH members. Put $15 guest fee in a labeled envelope, envelopes provided, and drop in the slot on the back wall of the shed.
Please record ALL visits, all members, guests and visitors, on the sign-in sheet in the shed.
On-site Protocols, Risk, and Visits to the Club
Please record ALL visits, all members, guests and visitors, on the sign-in sheet in the shed. This helps us evaluate usage.
- There is no trash barrel on-site.
- Whatever you bring to the courts, please pack in/pack out including tennis ball lids and old balls.
- There have been bears in the area on occasion. Please leave no trace of food.
- The cell service at the Club is unfortunately not good. Texting is possible.
- Our 911 address is 2761 Mill Brook Road, Fayston.
- Members and their guests shall use these courts and premises, and any access thereto, exclusively at their own risk, under all conditions.
- Any persons coming onto the premises shall do so on the same terms. Any person who is neither a member, a registered family member, or the guest of a member is a trespasser and subject to the general laws of the State of Vermont.
- Any vandalism associated with any member or their guest will subject the member to a charge for repair of the damage and possible review of their membership.
Sweeping
Please sweep all the way to the fences. When you are done sweeping, please look at the courts and see if they look inviting – like you would like them to look when you arrive to play.
Wetness
Although several Board members and volunteers take care of the courts by watering and rolling, we count on each member to use good sense and care as to when the courts are playable and in what condition you leave them. If your footprint leaves a depression, the courts are too wet to play. One member offers “if you step on to the sideline of the court and you can see any shoe imprint more than a light silhouette of your tread, it is too soft to play and will dig up the court.” A sign may occasionally be posted indicating the courts are too wet to play. Anyone is welcome to make a note on the Google calendar if they observe the courts being too wet to play. However, the courts are essentially self-serve and there may not be someone available to inspect when they are ready to play again, so the judgement is yours.
Member List
The member list is posted in the shed once the courts are open.
The member list is also posted on the website in the Members area. (The password to the members area is the short word that represents when your serve is not returned.)
Members are requested to provide skill level to facilitate finding suitable hitting partners.
Website Account
The website is set up to notify members when a post is made. After the start of the season, the primary way the Board will communicate with members is by posting information on the website. Therefore, each member is provided a user account.
We ask new members to reply to the first post you receive to confirm your receipt. The first post of the season would typically be a request to join a workday or that the Club is open for play. (You may have to check your spam folder and approve the “from” email address.)
Members are welcome to request access to your user account if you wish to make posts. Useful purposes for doing so would be to post pictures of play or to make requests for people of certain skill levels to play at certain times. Members will receive an email alerting them to the new post on the website. The WordPress platform is easy to use and your access as a contributor will be quite limited; minimal coaching may be provided. You are also welcome to post a note in the clubhouse.
Send Darlene an email if you would like access to your account. It has been set up with the primary email you provided. Depending how quickly I can answer you, I will either assign a password which you may change, or will send you a confirmation email from which you can set your own password. These types of emails can end up in your spam boxes, so please look there if you don’t get it timely.
